Machine gunning their way into your heart

Pounding gunshot beats, tortured vocals, industrial squeaks and foreboding synth work, it's Machine Gun, coming at you straight from Portishead's latest release, Third. I can't wait to hear the whole thing, but it sounds a little more experimental than previous releases. While Portishead worked their sound into everywhere from clubs to supermarkets and the realm of musak, their 1998 album Roseland NYC Live recorded in concert with the New York Philharmonic pointed towards a more experimental future.

And here it is, not making for comfortable listening, but not to be found playing near a urinal, anywhere.

Bright lights, Dongguan city!

The view from the DJ Booth: Do they want Fabsabs' ass? Nah! It's free gift time at BB Club!

BB Club. Epileptics should never, ever, under any circumstances, come!

Neon flashy club fronts, dancers, sunglass-sporting revelers and electro madness, my gig at Dongguan city's BB Club was every inch the nuts evening that I didn't anticipate! After last week's successful gig at another club in Dongguan, I thought it would be a breeze. Not at all... The crowd was revved up and ready to go, and I was pushed to the max. Let the pictures tell all...

Here I am with the house resident Mic, but what's up with my squinty look? Really good mixing and tunes made Mic a hard act to follow, and I was up for a chilled evening. Norah Jones anyone?

This guy controls the lights at the Club. Hey dude, next time tone down those US/Mexican border style spotlights a little! Maybe that's why I was squinting!

More free gifts at the club. Check out the dude bottom left with the shades... shady!

Dongguan or bust! Part two

Here is the poster for my gig tonight at BB Club in Dongguan. It urges patrons to "get ready"! Was that like a message to me, or to the crowd? Haha, pics to follow... Oh and since Chivas sponsored the poster, I would just like to say, I like Jack Daniels, sorry.

Fabsabs in da House!

Holy Shit, it's my mug shot 7ft tall outside House Club!

It was enough to make anyone freak out. OK, so they make you a poster for the gig, that's hot, that's pretty cool. Then when you show, you find it's been blown up across the front of the building! This is what I faced entering House Club in Dongguan for my gig with MC MDA. A China Club scene pro, MDA was more concerned about the poster calling him MC MBA (a regular scenario, he says), whereas I was just thinking about possible places where I could get some Valium! Yeah so I was a bit (very) nervous, but hell, it went OK, save for a couple of mixes that were a bit off, people seemed to like the selection. Plus, the hotel was awesome (though rather oddly, had a massive tank in the lobby with large sea turtles in it – somebody please liberate the turtles!). Check out the pics.

MC MDA gets the crowd shaking their booties

The crowd move their feet while I'm playing, thanks for the support! Beats other times where people sit and stare!

Here's the House Club resident DJ, good tunes, sweet mixing... Far left, no gig in China is complete without the scantily clad lady dancers!

Dongguan or bust! Part one

Dodgy photo of me for sure. Let's hope the punters like it!

Well, I'm just about to go up to Dongguan, just north of the border, for a gig. Some place called "House Club", and bless, they've even made a poster! I better get a few and post some on my wall, though I have to admit, the design is rather... er, limited...

Apparently I'm part of the international A-list nowadays, according to House Club promoters... Well, that's good news! I'm playing with some guy called MC MBA, should be interesting. More news to follow, if I make back down in one piece!

p-p-p-PARTAE!

It's pretty funny to be posting about an Xmas event now, but you know, with holiday time lately the blog has suffered big ass time. So anyway, party time for brand specialists Eight in Causeway Bay. We had some big problems with one of the players, and a few sound cut offs due to drunken party people tripping around, disconnecting cables, flipping switches that should NOT BE TOUCHED, making attempts to scratch, cut and do all manner of things on the decks.

All in all, it proved to be chaotic, but a good laugh... just please, DON'T TOUCH THE DAMN SET UP PEOPLE!

Sexy time!

Yes, I have been rather slack of late. Let's just accept it and get on with our lives. Anyway, had a few gigs recently... will be posting again since it is a new year and all...

So the above was a party in Causeway Bay for a studio opening. Chilling, was playing a bit of The Gossip, Dizzee Rascal, on a rocky vibe, when the Brazilian dancers came in... OK , so it was time to switch to the bossa-beats, Latin house. Problem: Very very irritating manager type person telling me to play ultra fast j-pop/techno song everytime the fire breather was doing his thing, which happened to be every 20 mins! Why? Because the freaking song kept on going "fire, fire". Later on, while I was playing Latin house for the "Brazilian" dancers, I could hear one of them say "I WANT BEYONCE"...

Yo, ring the alarm, 'cause I was out of there...

I really enjoyed playing j-techno song "Fire, fire".... every 20 minutes!
